The Norfolklore Genealogy Fair is the oldest genealogy fair in Ontario and is the one annual event that should not be missed if your interest is Norfolk history and genealogy. Each year since 1976 it has attracted dozens of genealogical resource providers/exhibitors and hundreds of genealogists researching their Upper Canada/Ontario/Norfolk roots.
The 2013 Fair will be held Saturday, September 21st (10:00 am to 4:00 pm) so put it on your calendar right now and plan to come and see us. Maybe you could turn it into a family reunion!
Tickets are only $5.00 and this includes admission to both the Norfolklore Genealogy Fair as well as to the Eva Brook Donly Museum and Archives where you can do some local research with volunteer help. The two sites are only 2 blocks apart so one parking of your car should suffice. Usual admission to the Archives is $10.00.
The Fair is a great place to find out-of-print books, hard-to-find books, maps, historical transcriptions too numerous to list and much, much more.
A special thanks goes to the Simcoe Senior's Centre, 89 Pond St. in downtown Simcoe, who again generously allowed us the use of their wonderful facility free-of-charge, and to all those who volunteer their time, knowledge, effort and energy to each edition of Norfolklore.
In September 2012, Norfolklore XXXVI attracted individuals from over 40 different communities across Ontario - from Cornwall to the east all the way to Sarnia in the west.
Again, almost half of our attendees enhanced their day by including a visit to the Eva Brook Donly Museum and Archives.
The resource providers/exhibitors for 2011 included:
Brant County OGS, Colonel John Butler Branch UELAC, Grand River Branch UELAC, Haldimand County OGS, Mayholme Foundation, Moorshead Magazines Ltd, Norfolk Historical Society, Norfolk County OGS, Norwich and District Historical Society, Oxford OGS, Robert Mutrie and Waterford and Townsend Historical Society.
The following pictures provide a sample view of the resource exhibitors and the crowd of interested researcher visitors that attend each year.
